November always seems to be somewhat left to the side, nestled between the sometimes Indian summer of October and chaos of December. With the exception of the momentary capers of bonfire night, there often feels a slight hurry to zip through November in order to race to the festivities of December. But there is a wonderful stillness that November brings. So far we have had a crisp, dry November, which has enhanced the golden hues of the beech trees, and calm seas in which to swim.
Seatown has regained its calm from the summer and half-term chaos, and has once again been given back to the locals. The sauna is welcoming back its regulars, and the soft glow of the pebble lights are mimicking the November full moon. The Anchor’s fire is being stoked, and there is a real sense of hunkering down and taking things slower.
For those coming to the Seaside Sauna Haus, it is a coven of warmth from the encroaching bitter winds that are starting to make their way through.
Now, the evenings are drawing in, and the thick cloud comes in like a blanket - the gulls silently drifting out to sea at the first signs of dusk. To the west, Lyme Regis is bejewelled with lights, and the thin strip of Portland can be seen to the east.
Seatown is blissfully tucked out of the way.
Condensation on the sauna door.
The soft murmur from the inside.
Friends gathering and catching up from the previous week.
For now, the sea is silky smooth, and inky to the eye - a welcome dip from the heat of the sauna. Steam still clinging to my skin.
Stormier days will come. But for now I am holding on to the calm solitude and the light of the Beaver Moon.
